Overview

Ali and Bedni Bugyal are two of the most expansive alpine meadows in the country — endless rolling grasslands that seem to stretch to the horizon, framed by the giants Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. Gentle gradients, dreamy meadow campsites and the sacred Bedni Kund make this one of the most beautiful and beginner-friendly meadow treks in the Garhwal Himalaya.

Highlights

  • Two of India's largest alpine meadows (bugyals)
  • Towering views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti
  • The sacred Bedni Kund lake
  • Gentle gradients — superb for first-time trekkers

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1

    Rishikesh → Lohajung

A long but beautiful drive from Rishikesh, tracing the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers deep into the Garhwal hills. Reach Lohajung (7,600 ft), a quiet ridge-top hamlet that serves as the trek's base, by evening.

  2. 2

    Lohajung → Didna

Descend to the Neel Ganga river and cross the bridge, then climb through oak and rhododendron forest. Arrive at the picturesque farming village of Didna, perched on a sunny slope, for the night.

  3. 3

Didna → Ali Bugyal → Bedni Bugyal

A steady climb breaks above the treeline onto the vast, rolling Ali Bugyal meadows. Traverse the open grasslands with Trishul ahead and camp at the sweeping Bedni Bugyal.

  4. 4

    Explore Bedni Bugyal

A relaxed day to wander the meadows at your own pace and visit the sacred Bedni Kund, a still reflecting pool. Enjoy uninterrupted views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti all day long.

  5. 5

    Bedni → Didna → Lohajung

Descend off the meadows and back down through the forest, dropping to the river before a short final climb. Return to Lohajung for a well-earned rest.

  6. 6

    Lohajung → Rishikesh

An early start for the long, scenic drive back down the mountains. Wind along the rivers and arrive in Rishikesh by evening.
